Beyond the Apron

Hello out there.. I suppose I should properly introduce myself.  My name is Elizabeth and, as a lifelong vegetarian and daughter of a vegetarian chef, I primarily eat and cook with natural, wholesome ingredients that are nutritious and delicious.  That being said, I have an undeniable taste for sweets--dark chocolate, in particular, makes me weak in the knees.

I grew up in the kitchen, learning at a young age to truly appreciate the art of food.  I can remember chopping parsley in the kitchen of my mother's vegetarian restaurant, having to stand on a crate because I was too short to reach the counter.  I had my first burn before kindergarten; I cried screams of fury while my mom frantically put slabs of tofu on the arm that had fallen prey to a pot of boiling stock.  It was a strange childhood, but one I feel was specially designed for me.

I recently graduated from New York University after getting a very expensive degree in cultural anthropology.  I’ve done a good bit of traveling (although it never feels like enough) through Europe and South America, which has only intensified my burning love for food.  After spending two months in the fall road-tripping throughout America-the-Beautiful, I am now living at home in New Jersey.  I would love to someday combine my passion for food and cooking with traveling and writing.

I created this blog for myself to write about what I truly enjoy: food, in all its glory.  I have always loved cooking and learning new recipes and techniques while exploring unexpected and underrated ingredients.  By sharing my passion for natural foods, I hope to inspire others to ditch the microwave, if only for one night, and see how easy and rewarding it is to eat and cook your way to a healthy and happy life.
